The department of Computer Science began its journey in the year 1997 under the affiliation of The University of Calcutta. Later in the year 2001 the Honours course was introduced. The main objective of the department has always been to help the students in every possible manner. The department has always tried to emphasise on the need and importance of this subject and has helped the students to understand its global impact.
We have very well equipped Wi-Fi enabled laboratories with more than 30 computers and ICT facilities like Projector with screen, scanner, colour printer etc.
The students not only take keen interest in the subject but also participate in departmental workshops and seminars time to time. It is a matter of pride and satisfaction for the department that more than 90% of the students have successfully graduated till now. Some of our ex- students are well placed in life and they are doing exceedingly well in their job sectors.
The department has organised workshops, seminars and some special lectures to facilitate the students. Regarding the co-curricular activities, some of our students have successfully participated in quiz competition and debates.

The Computer Science Department at our institution is actively involved in promoting academic activities to enhance student learning and engagement. One of the prominent ways in which this is done is through the creation and maintenance of a wall magazine. This wall magazine serves as a platform for showcasing student projects, research findings, upcoming events, and other relevant information related to the field of computer science.
By regularly updating the wall magazine with insightful content, the department aims to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence among students and faculty members. This not only helps in promoting awareness about the latest trends and developments in the field but also provides a forum for sharing ideas and exchanging knowledge within the department.

The Computer Science Department regularly organizes student seminars to showcase research projects, discuss emerging technologies, and facilitate networking among students and faculty members. These seminars provide a platform for students to present their work, receive feedback, and engage in academic discussions. These seminars offer valuable learning opportunities for students to enhance their presentation skills, receive feedback from peers and faculty, and engage in discussions on various topics related to computer science.

The department of Computer Science in collaboration with IQAC of Derozio Memorial College had organized a one-day national Webinar on “Soft Computing: Issues and applications” on 30.06.2020 to make aware of different technical aspects and uncertainty issues relevant to real life applications of soft computing.

The department of Computer Science in collaboration with Software Skill Development Committee had organized a short term course (10 hrs) on "Introduction to coding through C/Python" on 26th September, 30th September, 3rd October, 7th October & 10th October 2023 respectively for all 5th semester Honors & General students. The courses covered introduction to logic programming, algorithm & flowchart, logic building using C, introduction to Python programming, Python packages, a real life application using Python programming languages. The basics of the courses would be very much helpful to students willing to take their career choices in software development scenario. Moreover, an e-certificate also had been issued to all the successful candidates.
Short Term Course - 2022-23
The department had also organized a two-day Workshop on "NEP: MDC/VAC selection under WBSU curriculum" on 13th & 14th September 2023 for all 1st semester students to make them aware of MDC/VAC selection in University registration process. The main purpose of the workshop was to train the students regarding online activities to be needed during their entire three/four years tenure in different honors/general courses taken staring from University registration, form fill up, notices, download data, data entry, etc. through the college website.
